July 18, 2012

Between class in the villa, chocolate croissants in town, and nights topped off with Rose Pomplamoose, we found time to head to Omaha Beach and Point de Hoc to see the D-Day Memorial and the site of US invasion in France during WW2. Even as a kid, I was fascinated by WW2. I remember going to a certain coffee shop with my dad all the time to look at this one photojournalism book filled with pictures that documented the craziness that was WW2 and the Holocaust. So needless to say, it was crazy to be standing on the beach where thousands died. Then when we came home, we watched Saving Private Ryan and noticed they filmed it exactly where we have been that day and also living for the past two weeks. It was pretty surreal. All that to say, it was humbling to see where our soldiers fought and awesome to stand in the presence of so much history every day that I'm living in France.
